Headband (TopShop) | Earings (Tini Lux)
Happy Monday! This past weekend was my first spent in the Hamptons and it felt SO good. Now, I can say Summer is officially here.
I’ve been going to the Hamptons every Summer for my entire life. The house pictured above has been our home since I was four. I know how that sounds. It sounds like I’m a snobby, rich New Yorker and that is something I’ve actually been self conscious of most of my adult years. I’m always hesitant to answer that dreaded question, ‘what are your weekend plans?’ and I’ve definitely lied about it more than once. Now, I think this goes without saying but I’m SO appreciative of the life my parents gave my siblings and I. I know this lifestyle isn’t one that is widely relatable, but I think the relationship I have with the Hamptons is actually more relatable than most will think.
For those of you who don’t live in New York, the Hamptons is on the most eastern part of Long Island and takes about 3 hours (at the least) to get to from New York City. And those 3 hours (6 roundtrip) are hours that I’m more than willing to shell out on a weekly basis from June through August. While this isn’t always the most convenient, there is a very real reason why I choose to make the trek each week. It boils down to the calming effect of consistency.
So, what’s so consistent about it? Well, let’s start with the fact that my siblings and I still share a room with bunkbeds! We always have the air conditioning on 65-degrees and we still have the swing set that the three of us picked out together out back. Friday nights are spent around the kitchen table eating late-night snacks and Saturdays are spent poolside until the sun starts to set. These details are all so trivial because it really isn’t the WHAT and more about the WHY.
Throughout my entire life, this place has calmed me through some of the craziest moments of my life. No matter how happy I was, how sad I was, or how confused I was, my Summers always looked exactly the same, which was incredibly grounding. This place got me through breakups, new jobs, every life stage, new boyfriends, and everything in between. And while yes the Hamptons is seen as this luxurious place with celebrities on every corner (not true, BTW), the reason I keep going back is because it is one of the only constants in my life.
As a 20-something, I feel like my life is constantly changing. What I was doing a year ago is definitely not what I’m doing now and won’t even be close to what I’ll be doing a year from now. BUT, I will still be going out to the Hamptons, spending quality time with my family and sharing this magical (I swear this place heals everything) place with the people closest to me. When I think about why this is so calming, it is because it almost the only thing in my life that I know will stay the same. I usually can’t predict what my life will look like on a daily basis, so the fact that I can recite the play-by-play of my Summer weekend is extremely calming.
What I’m Wearing
This past Saturday, I headed out for dinner in this Something Navy chambray romper. After the months of buzz around the Something Navy collection, this is the first piece that I bought and I’m so pleased with it. Not only is the quality top-notch, it is super comfortable and affordable. I was expecting the romper to be at least $100 and it was only $44.49! 🙌
My one complaint– the sleeves were a little long for me. I didn’t want to roll the sleeves up because they have adorable pearl detailed buttons so instead I just pulled them up to my elbows making them feel a little bit more billowy.
I paired this romper with my new Tini Lux earrings, which I’m absolutely obsessed with. Tini Lux is a hypoallergenic earring company that I was introduced to at Create & Cultivate. I had the opportunity to meet the founder Jackie, who told me all about her personal metal allergy, which inspired her to create Tini Lux. These earnings are not only made with Titanium and Niobium so they don’t cause any irritation they are super adorable! I love the mix of gold and mother of pearl hues for Summer.
