While on vacation I read ‘How To Be A Financial Grownup’ by Bobbi Rebell. I heard Bobbi speak at a recent NYC Panhellenic event and her perspective on personal finance really opened my eyes to what is important when it comes to all things money. ?
I read her book in less than 24 hours. It is certainly a page-turner and perfect if you are planning a beach day in the near future. I personally like to read books that educate me, so I never feel like I’m being unproductive when I’m relaxing. The book is a compilation of stories from successful people that Bobbi refers to as ‘Role Models.’ From Ivanka Trump to the Zillow CEO, Bobbi asks only two questions 1) What is your financial grownup moment and 2) what is your lesson to share. I found it their stories super interesting and inspiring and personally my favorite part of the book. Along with these stories, Bobbi sprinkles in her own personal finance advice from her experience as a Financial reporter.
This is such an easy read that just gets you thinking. From understanding what a 401K is to considering the financial factors when choosing a partner, this book really covers all the basis. It is by no means a step-by-step how to on how to fill out your 401K and what health insurance you should be using, but it gets you thinking about what is important and how you should be evaluating these different elements immediately to become financially free.
Personally, this was an eye-opener for me. I do the bare minimum when it comes to finance, so if nothing else, I now know what questions to ask and has even inspired me to become more involved in what is going on.
Thank you for your recommendation! I just ordered the book for our millennials! Enjoy the moments! xoMrsJ
I need to check this out! Being totally independent was a reality check for me and I need all the help I can get!
