As college students, we are all guilty of it: rolling over, looking at your alarm clock, and realizing you have 15 minutes until your 8 am class begins. I have had my fair share of these panic moments, but I have learned some ways to alleviate the stress that comes along with trying to look presentable when I would rather be asleep.
Plan your outfit the night before
My mom used to tell me to do this all the time when I was little, but, being the independent girl I was, I thought of it as being over-prepared. Well, let’s just say the saying that moms are always right has been proving itself to be more and more true. I have gotten into the habit of checking the weather forecast (I don’t know about where you live, but Maine is awfully unpredictable) and laying my outfit out ahead of time when I know I will have a busy morning. Bonus: for all of you with roommates, it means less noise in the morning when you are trying to get ready without being loud.
Stick with what you know
If you’re anything like me, you love to play around with new trends and ways of wearing what you already have. However, when you’re short on time, this isn’t the best way to go. While you might find an amazing new outfit, you also might waste time.
Add accessories
Whether it be sparkly jewelry, a bright scarf, or your favorite headband, accessories truly are the icing on the cake when it comes to an outfit. It only takes a second to slip on a bracelet, but it can make you look that much more presentable and ready to face the world.
Keep it Cozy
If the thought of jeans terrifies you at 8 in the morning, don’t immediately run to sweatpants! Leggings have become my best friend in college, simply because they are so easy to style, yet so comfortable. If I lived somewhere warmer than Maine and didn’t have to spend so much time running from class to class outside, I would definitely wear a dress to class more often. While some girls shy away from them at 8 am, think about it: they can be comfortable, and you just throw it on and you’re done! No need to find a matching top or bottom.
Whatever you decide to wear, don’t forget your coffee or bean boots (sorry, I’m a Mainer, I had to) on your way out the door!
