Jacket (Barbour), Shirt (Ralph Lauren), Vest (Gap), Skirt (J.Crew), Shoes (Sperry Top-Sider), Watch (Michael Kors)
Happy May! & most importantly Happy Friday! If you have been following along from the very beginning you may be having some flashbacks because this skirt was featured in the very first ThePreppyMAG post, almost 2 years later and it’s still stylin’.
Yesterday I prepped it up with a classic oxford shirt, a sweater vest, a high waisted skirt and some Sperry’s. Finally, warm enough to show some leg and let me be the preppy self I’m meant to be! I don’t know about you but I am still seriously struggling with my preppy style in the winter so now that it is warming up I’m bursting with preppiness.
I’m seriously loving this sweater vest look, mostly because it makes me look like a “Lady Boss.” Over the winter I fell into the casual agency attire slump which although amazing at times could also be extremely un-motivating. It may be mental but yesterday I feel like i got twice as much work done just because I felt put-together and confident.
So lets talk Preppy in the workplace for a minute. Working in advertising I work with a lot of trendy, hipster, and plenty non-preps and it can get a little awkward. Yesterday someone said, “OMG you look like you are going to a country club.” Have you ever been to a country club? I would never wear this! How do you combat these awkward moments? You embrace them wholeheartedly. Don’t be ashamed, live up to your preppiness and fascinate them with your confidence!
One thing I’m not too sure about is wearing a bow in the workplace. Does it make you look too young, too unprofessional or am I looking to far into this? I really don’t know. When I first started working at 360i I was super self conscious about wearing bows because nobody else did but now that I feel more comfortable and my friends know how preppy I can really get I don’t mind flaunting one here and there.
What are your suggestions on being perfectly preppy in the workplace?
